Limavady

• Limavady (population 12,000) is located 3 miles from the Derry-Belfast line and 6 miles from the nearest rail station (Bellarena).


• Passenger volumes on the Derry-Belfast line are usually at their lowest in the section between Derry and Coleraine – so rail access for a medium-sized own located half-way along that section would boost net-revenue on the line.

• A railway spur ran into the town until 1950 (though required a change at Limavady Junction to connect with mainline services). This former rail route into the town remains essentially clear up to the rear of Limavady’s bus station.
